Metal Halide Lamp

Metal Halide Lamp

A metal halide lamp is a type of high-intensity discharge (HID) lamp that produces light by passing an electric current through a mixture of metal halides and mercury vapor within a quartz or ceramic arc tube. These lamps are known for their high efficiency, excellent color rendering capabilities, and long lifespan. Metal halide lamps emit a bright, white light that closely resembles natural daylight, making them suitable for a variety of applications such as sports arenas, stadiums, parking lots, and industrial spaces where high levels of illumination are required. They are also commonly used in horticulture for indoor plant growth. Metal halide lamps require a ballast to regulate the electrical current and start the lamp, as well as a warm-up period before reaching their full brightness. While they offer many advantages, metal halide lamps also have drawbacks, including a relatively long restrike time after power interruption and a gradual decrease in light output over time. Nonetheless, they remain a popular lighting choice in many commercial and outdoor settings.
